Cropped: capture, crop, compress and share
Cropped is a native screenshot, annotation and screen recording app for Mac, Windows and Linux (Beta) that also crops, resizes, trims and shrinks your images and videos. Everything happens on your own computer: your files are never uploaded.
It runs on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on 64-bit Windows 11, and as a Beta on Ubuntu 24.04 or later with GNOME. Cropped Core is free forever with every Core update, and every download includes 14 days of Pro, with no signup or card.
What you can do with Cropped
- Take a screenshot: of an area, a single window or the whole screen, with a shortcut, a timer or Repeat last area.
- Record your screen with sound: computer sound and your microphone on Mac and Linux, your microphone on Windows, up to 120 fps on 120 Hz screens.
- Annotate a screenshot: with arrows, boxes, circles, text, drawing, a focus area, and blocks that hide passwords and private details.
- Crop and resize images to an exact size: by ratio, by hand or with smart crop, and export every social media size at once.
- Look up social media image sizes: for X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest and more.
- Optimize and compress images: to WebP, AVIF, JPEG or PNG, with a quality, a maximum size or a file-size limit.
- Compress videos and make GIFs: as MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or GIF, with presets for the web, email and sharing.
- Trim and crop a video: cut the start and end, keep several clips and crop to 1:1, 4:5 or 16:9.
- Join videos and add music or a voiceover: on a timeline with split, reorder and per-clip volume.
- Use Cropped from Claude, Cursor or Codex: as AI tools (MCP) that take screenshots, annotate, crop, resize, shrink and edit, and make new images with your own OpenAI or Gemini key.
Everything in Cropped

- Pixel-exact selector with a frozen screen, a magnifier and Smart Crop Snapping
- Screen recording at 30 or 60 fps, or 120 on 120 Hz screens, with computer sound, microphone or both

- Quick Trim before a recording is optimized; the original is kept
- Annotate with arrows, boxes, circles, X marks, text, numbered steps, drawing, focus mask, blur, hide and crop

- Guides: step-by-step how-tos from screenshots, restyled all at once

Images
- Crop with rotate, flip, exact sizes and smart crop

- WebP, AVIF, JPEG and PNG

- Compare before and after, with real file sizes
- Presets and collections, shareable by link or JSON
- 51 platform sizes for X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok and 7 more

- Frames: every export size side by side, previewed in a feed post, Story or header
- PNG or JPG copies of WebP and AVIF social sizes, ready to post
- Favicon and app icons: favicon.ico, iPhone and Android icons, a web manifest, Mac .icns and Windows .ico from one image

- Batch: settings apply to every image in the queue
- Agent / LLM preset for lighter screenshots in AI chats
Video & GIF
- Trim, crop, resize and choose the frame rate
- Video editor: join videos and images, split, reorder and trim on a timeline
- Zoom on clicks: recordings zoom in smoothly on each click, and you can move, change or turn off every zoom
- Record a how-to: every click becomes a numbered step with a zoom, your words become captions, and it exports as a guide or a video
- Your own music under the video, a recorded voiceover and each clip's volume
- Captions made on your computer from what's said: edit, time and style them, burn them in or save .srt and .vtt
- Jump Cuts: cut pauses, restarted takes, ums and uhs and distorted sound from a talking video automatically, check every cut first, and make a bloopers reel from what was cut
- Edit a video from its words: pick captions and cut them, and that part of the video goes with them
- Clip picker: hover the timeline, press + to keep a part, drag its ends; kept clips export joined
- MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM and GIF
- H.264, HEVC, AV1 and VP9; AAC or Opus audio up to 5.1
- Aim for a quality, an average bitrate or a maximum file size

- HDR clips converted instead of failing
- GIF to MP4 and back, with loop, color and dithering controls

Questions, answered
What happens when the 14-day Pro trial ends?
Nothing is charged and nothing is deleted. Cropped Core keeps working, free, with every Core tool and update. The Pro tools wait until you add Pro, which you can do from the app any time.
How many computers can I use it on?
Cropped Core is free on as many Mac, Windows and Linux computers as you like. Pro is for one person, on up to 5 computers at once, and a computer frees its place 30 days after it was last used. Cropped works offline and stays active through updates. License terms
Is screen capture included, and on which computers?
Yes, with the same license and nothing extra to buy. Screenshots, screen recording and annotation are in Cropped for Mac, Windows and Linux (Beta). The Mac version needs an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. On Windows, recordings take your microphone; computer sound isn't recorded there yet. The Linux Beta runs on Ubuntu 24.04 or later with GNOME and records computer sound and your microphone.
Are updates included?
Yes. Every Core update is free, with nothing extra to buy for new versions. Pro updates come with Pro. Cropped checks for updates itself, and the full history is on the updates page. See what shipped
Can I get a refund?
Yes. Ask within 30 days of a Pro purchase for a full refund, no questions asked. Send the email you used at checkout through the contact page and it goes back to your original payment method. Cropped Core is free, so there is nothing to refund. Refund policy
Does anything leave my computer?
Your images and videos are processed on your device and are never uploaded. Diagnostics are off by default. Activation and the monthly license check send only your license details to the licensing service. Privacy & diagnostics
Windows shows a SmartScreen warning. Is the installer safe?
Yes. SmartScreen warns about installers from smaller publishers until enough people have run them. Choose More info, then Run anyway. The Mac builds are signed and notarized by Apple.
Is there a mobile version?
It is on the way: iOS is in TestFlight testing and Android is in development. The desktop license covers Mac, Windows and Linux; mobile will be offered separately when it launches.
